Job Purpose:
To lead the delivery of essential healthcare services in flood-affected communities in KP, providing clinical care, managing health emergencies, and supporting the overall health response in alignment with national and international standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Services
- Provide outpatient and inpatient care for common illnesses, injuries, and flood-related health issues.
- Manage cases of waterborne diseases (e.g., acute watery diarrhea, cholera, typhoid) and vector-borne diseases (malaria, dengue).
- Conduct emergency obstetric care (e.g., normal deliveries, antenatal and postnatal care).
- Perform minor surgical procedures (e.g., wound suturing, abscess drainage) as needed.
2. Emergency Health Response
- Lead rapid medical assessments in newly flood-affected areas.
- Oversee triage, diagnosis, and treatment in mobile medical clinics and static health facilities.
- Ensure referral systems are functional for critical cases (e.g., trauma, severe infections).
- Support vaccination campaigns (e.g., tetanus, measles) and disease outbreak control.
3. Health Team Supervision
- Supervise and mentor paramedics, nurses, and community health workers.
- Conduct on-the-job training on clinical protocols, infection prevention, and patient management.
- Ensure adherence to national treatment guidelines and humanitarian standards (e.g., SPHERE, WHO).
4. Disease Surveillance & Reporting
- Monitor and report notifiable diseases (e.g., cholera, measles) to district health authorities.
- Maintain accurate patient records and submit daily/weekly health reports.
- Use health data to inform response strategies and resource allocation.
5. Pharmacy & Medical Supply Management
- Oversee the use and storage of medical supplies and drugs.
- Ensure rational use of medicines and monitor for expiration.
- Request timely replenishment of supplies to avoid stockouts.
6. Coordination
- Liaise with District Health Office (DHO), WHO, Health Cluster, and other health actors.
- Represent the organization in health coordination meetings at the district level.
Emergency-Specific Tasks:
- Deploy within 24-48 hours to establish emergency health services in disaster-affected sites.
- Support setting up and managing ** diarrhea treatment centers (DTCs)** or primary healthcare centers.
- Conduct health education sessions on disease prevention, hygiene, and maternal health.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Education: MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
- Certification: Valid PMDC license and registration.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, including emergency/outpatient care.
- Experience in humanitarian settings (floods, conflicts, or IDP responses) preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in managing common medical, surgical, and obstetric emergencies.
- Knowledge of public health principles and disease surveillance.
- Fluency in Pashto (mandatory) and Urdu; basic English for reporting.
Preferred:
- Training in Advanced Life Support (ALS), IMCI, or MHGAP.
- Experience with mobile clinic operations and community-based healthcare.
- Understanding of KP’s health system and major health challenges.
Working Conditions:
- Extensive field travel to remote and flood-affected areas.
- Long and irregular hours during emergency response periods.
- Exposure to health risks; strict infection prevention control (IPC) measures required.
