Job Title: Accounting Manager
Reports to: Controller
Direct Reports: 2 Accountants (remote)
Location: Remote (hours aligned to North-American time zone)
1. Role Summary
The Accounting Manager owns the end-to-end bookkeeping, reconciliation, and month-end close process. You will supervise two staff accountants, enforce strong internal controls, and ensure every sub-ledger rolls cleanly into the general ledger—delivering an accurate, audit-ready trial balance on a tight timetable. The ideal candidate combines hands-on ledger expertise with people-management skills and the mindset to streamline, document, and automate wherever possible.
2. Key Responsibilities
Cash & Banking
- Complete and approve daily cash postings.
- Perform full monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
- Perform full monthly credit card reconciliations including postings for all business credit cards.
- Monitor bank accounts daily
Accounts Receivable
- Oversee customer cash application and deductions processing.
- Ensure AR sub-ledger agrees to customer portals; investigate variances.
- Issue disputes and claims for unreconciled items. Provide monthly reports of ongoing AR issues.
Accounts Payable
- Supervise vendor payment runs and maintain supplier master data.
- Post vendor payments and invoices.
- Download invoices weekly from all online platforms and submit for approval after checking for accuracy.
General-Ledger Reconciliations
- Own balance-sheet recs for all key accounts, and keep an ongoing record of each balance sheet reconciliation per month.
Financial Reporting
- Deliver a five- to seven-day month-end close
- Pre-close GL tie-out checklist, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled, and P&L general ledger accounts are reviewed for consistency and accuracy, presented to the controller for review.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Coach, mentor, and performance-manage two staff accountants.
- Coordinate review cycles with the Controller and external advisors.
- Provide ad-hoc analysis to controller on P&L items, variance analysis, ratio analysis, with preliminary financial statements.
4. Required Qualifications
- CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional designation (completed or in final stage).
- 5+ years progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years supervising staff.
- Demonstrated expertise in full-cycle bookkeeping, multi-currency reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets; familiarity with ERP platforms (e.g., Dynamics BC is an asset) and cloud expense tools.
- Strong written and verbal English; able to craft clear SOPs and present findings to leadership.
- Proven ability to work independently in a fully remote environment across time zones.
5. Preferred Assets
- Experience with e-commerce, SaaS, or inventory-heavy businesses.
- Prior exposure to balance sheet reconciliations.
- Power BI or similar BI/dashboard skills.
- Knowledge of SaaS/Retail business structure.
