The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty members, including 3 part-time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.
Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Research Associate in Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The Global Research on AntiMicrobial Resistance (GRAM) Project is aimed to strengthen the evidence base on the current global burden of AMR, and how, where and why it is changing. This will provide the essential health intelligence to help drive awareness of AMR, support better surveillance of AMR, and prompt policy action to control AMR, including facilitating antimicrobial stewardship.
This is a grant-funded contractual position.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible to:
- assist the principal investigator in coordinating workflows for ongoing research projects
- perform quality control of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data
- analyse AMR and neonatal sepsis data collected at the AKU clinical microbiology laboratory
- conduct weekly surveillance of neonatal infections in the hospital
- carry out literature reviews on study subjects and prepare summary data and reports
- work with the principal investigator to collate data for manuscripts.
Requirements:
You should have:
- a bachelor’s degree in biosciences, microbiology or molecular biology; a master’s degree is preferable with relevant research and administrative experience
- at least one year of experience working on research projects
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- demonstrated experience in writing research reports
- experience working on varied research projects with the ability to coordinate assignments, write meeting minutes and prepare reports
- strong critical thinking, organisational and management skills
- the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, including tasks related to lab/biospecimen processing and data management
- proficiency in literature review and scientific writing
- good command of computer skills and MS Office applications.
