Key Responsibilities:
- Data Management:
- Digitize, edit, and maintain geographic data, including points, lines, and polygons, from various sources (e.g., aerial imagery, GPS data, survey notes, blueprints).
- Perform data conversions and transformations between different formats and coordinate systems.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency through quality control checks and validation.
- Organize and manage GIS databases, layers, and project files.
- Mapping & Cartography:
- Produce clear, accurate, and visually appealing maps, charts, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply cartographic principles to design effective map layouts, symbology, and labeling.
- Generate custom maps for specific project requirements, presentations, and publications.
- Spatial Analysis:
- Conduct basic spatial analysis tasks such as buffering, overlay, network analysis, and proximity analysis.
- Assist in interpreting and visualizing spatial data to support decision-making.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and other team members to understand project requirements.
- Provide technical support and training to colleagues on GIS tools and data usage as needed.
- Document GIS procedures, metadata, and project workflows.
- Technology & Innovation:
- Stay updated with the latest GIS software, tools, and industry best practices.
- Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new GIS technologies.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Cartography, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a GIS Operator or in a similar GIS-related role.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap), QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of geospatial data types, projections, and coordinate systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and mapping.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, aerial photographs, and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):
- Experience with GPS equipment and data collection.
- Experience with web GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Mapbox, Google Maps API).
